The Town of Belville, which borders the Brunswick River,
is home to Brunswick River Park. This park provides an opportunity
to separate yourself from the hustle-bustle of everyday life and
connect with nature. The site was once part of the 280 acre Belville
Plantation, owned by the family of Daniel Lindsay Russell, who served
as governor of North Carolina from 1897 – 1901.
If you want to enjoy natural beauty, visit the scenic Brunswick River.
The river can be accessed from the Brunswick River Park located on Highway
133, across from Belville Elementary school. There is a public boat ramp,
picnic facilities, walking trails, shoreline fishing and a playground. T
he Brunswick River is a great place for canoeing and kayaking. Gliding
quietly, you might spot a deer, muskrats, beavers, butterflies and perhaps
even a mink. A large variety of birds can be encountered including Snowy
Egrets, Great Blue Herons, White Ibis, Osprey, Pelicans, and the Bald Eagle.
Tree lovers will be amazed at the numerous varieties such as the Bald Cypress,
Loblolly Pines, Hickories, Southern Magnolias, River Birch, Wax Myrtles,
Dogwoods, Chinese Wisteria and Virginia Creeper.
